Independent Homestay Program in Britain EILUK Logo

Britain has long been a favoured tourist destination due to its rich history and traditions. Britain has a varied and diverse landscape ranging from coastal to mountainous all with beautiful scenery to enjoy. British music, art and culture are renowned around the world. The cities are modern and vibrant and the countryside is rural and peaceful. Whatever type of experience you are looking for Britain can usually offer it.

Available Locations - Homestay placements can be made in many parts of Britain such as Worcester, Norwich or Edinburgh, and also in more rural parts of Britain, such as Cornwall, Cumbria and South Wales.

Host families, accommodations and meals - Host families come from all walks of life - they could be a Malvern Hillscouple with or without children, a single person or an extended family. EIL UK works to select, screen and monitor host families to find a placement to best match your unique profile and interests.
Family activities depend on the location of your homestay, and the interests of your family. Your hosts will include you in their activities whenever possible but you must be prepared to travel and to do things on your own as many families work or have other commitments on their time.

Local Support - In some host family placements there will be a local representative in the area to help you during your stay, but if not, you will always have the contact details of a dedicated member of staff at EIL who will be happy to help and support you.

Travel Information - All travel arrangements should be booked in accordance with EIL guidance. Booking your travel arrangements is your responsibility but EIL will help you to plan your journeys where necessary. Most placements will involve a bus or a train journey from the airport and you will be met on arrival in your homestay community, either by a member of your host family or by the local representative.

Dates and deadlines - The homestay programme in Britain is 1 – 4 weeks in duration, and you may set you own start and end dates throughout the year. We ask that you plan to arrive at your homestay during the daytime on a Sunday and to depart during the daytime on a Saturday, but if this difficult there is the possibility to make alternative arrangements.

Requirements - Applicants for individual homestay must be 18 years old, unless traveling with parents. Basic English is a requirement for all participants to enable you to communicate with your family.

Optional Add-Ons:
If there is an additional add-on which you would like to include in your programme it may be possible to organize, by arrangement with EIL. Additional options cannot be guaranteed.
