Being from the states, my sense of “historic culture” is a bit warped. Someone once said that the difference between the United States and Europe is that people in the states think 500 years is a really long time and that people in Europe think 500 miles is a really long distance – or something like that.
Anyway, my home city of Pittsburgh actually has some pretty cool art museums, including the Andy Warhol museum. However, you’d be hard pressed to find art as magnificent and culturally significant as those found in El Museo del Prado.
We toured Del Prado on July 5th. Aided by our wonderful guide, we got to view famous works by Spanish artists including Las Meninas and Saturn Devouring His Son. As a fan of classic art, especially the baroque period, I really enjoyed viewing all the pieces. It was a fantastic way to start our program and was one of my favorite things that we did in Madrid.
All of us after the tour. No photos allowed inside!
